Have you ever been guilty of saying the following, or similar?

  • Luck never works in my favour
  • I can’t understand/believe this keeps happening to me
  • If only I had more…
  • It’s their fault that I feel this way
  • That’s just the way it is
  • I should have spoken up for myself

Words that in one form or another are uttered every day. Words that when spoken, immediately represent the giving away of one’s power.

What about you, how, where and why do you give your power away?

I suppose, to really be able to answer that question, I need to outline what I mean when I say “Give away your power”.

In its simplest form it is when things are not what you want them to be and from your way of thinking, that is caused by someone or something else. It is when you allow people or circumstance to have a level of control over you and your thinking or approach.

In most cases, people give away their power because:
a: They don’t know themselves well enough (personal values and character)
b: They could be frightened of a negative consequence
c: They are not confident in being themselves
d: The need for external acceptance is greater than the need to be self
e: Put off by the responsibility that comes with ‘owning’ their own power
f. Don’t want to be perceived as dominant, arrogant or selfish

Maintain your power, not for control or domination of others, but for the recognition of the worth of you. Make sure that you take responsibility for how you think, feel, react and behave. And in the process, ensuring that for all the right reasons and in all the right ways.

The Journey Continues!
