Every day in every way in the world, someone is looking for ways to improve.

The approach I use is pretty simple.

My first and foremost rule is that I never miss an opportunity to learn. And if there is no opportunity, then I attempt to create one.

It is about developing a body of knowledge and understanding that can and will be utilised whenever needed.

So let’s look at three areas of my improvement programme. And remember, in many cases, these opportunities have to be manufactured by you.

The first strategy is; anywhere, anytime, and with anyone that has had some success in an area that is of interest or that you believe can provide you with new knowledge, a different perspective, additional insight, and experience you have not seen before, or are not fully across, make contact with them.

Please do whatever you can to avail yourself of the information they have used to help them get the result they did.

Look for experience, results and differences in all sorts of places. And be relentless in your pursuit.

On a side issue, the exciting thing is that I don’t believe I have had anyone say to me that they were not prepared to share their knowledge or experience.

The second strategy is “The University of Life”. Every day you come into contact with people whom you can learn from. But in most situations, are you too busy, in a different head space, or not paying enough attention to take full advantage of the situation and opportunity before you?

Think of all the people you are with or around on any given day. Chances are there are some you know and some you don’t—each of them with different background, educational experience and skill set. Develop opportunities where you can learn from them and understand the difference and benefits they can provide for you.

Purposefully create those moments in time when you can ask a few simple questions that allow them to talk about their experiences, beliefs and approach, and it is a safe bet that you will get some very relevant and informative insight.

The third and most important part of this strategy is not just to take from the system but also to be prepared to give.

And in doing so, make sure that…

The Journey Continues!
