There is a quote that is attributed to boxer Mike Tyson that I absolutely love, the quote is:

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”.

Hence the need for:

1. Situational awareness
2. Adaptability

Situational awareness is the skill of ‘heads up’.  The ability to read and understand what is going on around you so you are never caught off guard or left behind.

Never become so incensed with your game plan or be that focused where you cannot or do not recognise that something is, or is about to happen.

You recognise it, you understand it, then what?

Adaptability!

The ability and preparedness to halt your current approach and pursue an alternate method or plan to regain momentum, ascendancy and to get the job done.

Now both of these skills take a lot of experience, skill and confidence to be successfully applied. For most this is going to come from the teaching of trial and error. Trial and error doesn’t mean abandoning a game plan because a) it’s too hard, b) you’re unsure c) others think you’re on the wrong track.

There are many ways to pursue and achieve the elements of life that are important to you. Some will be through intricate planning and execution some will be through the ability and preparedness to recognise, change and adapt.

Either way, do what you need to do when you need to do it to make sure that for all the right reasons and in all the right ways…

The Journey Continues!
